Fond du Lac woman struck, killed by car in Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A Fond du Lac, Wis., resident was struck and killed Friday night by a vehicle on Estero Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, John W. Hill, 69, of Port Huron. Mich., was traveling south on Estero Boulevard in the southbound lane near Lenell Road.. Mary Ann Hechimovich, 67, was walking south on the east sidewalk of Estero Boulevard along with family members.

The pedestrians decided to cross the roadway, from east to west with Hechimovich the last to cross. Hill did not see Hechimovich until just prior to impact. The front of Hill's SUV struck the right side of Hechimovich. Hill came to a stop at the scene. Hechimovich sustained fatal injuries at impact.

The incident is still under investigation.
