Churches join in debt-counselling

TWENTY-two churches ? five of which are Anglican ? opened debt counselling centres last month, in partnership with Christians Against Poverty (CAP). The Anglican churches are Em?manuel, Great Chesham, Buck?inghamshire; St Budeaux, Devon?port, near Plymouth; St Helen?s, Sandal Magna, Wakefield; Our Saviour, East Springfield, and St Paul?s, Harold Hill, in Essex. The centre manager of the CAP debt centre at St Paul?s, Harold Hill, Steven Durrant, said: ?We want the Church to be a transforming presence in our community and to let people know that Christians do care, and that ultimately we want to share the good news of Jesus with them.? The founder and international director of CAP, John Kirkby, said: ?For every centre that opens, lives are saved; families are held together; children are fed; and homes are saved. People discover that there is a God who sees their situation and loves them deeply. We?ve done a lot, but we have a lot to do in these next few years.?
